Why MJM Precision Forming
Precision forming is where flat, laser-cut blanks become real parts — and accuracy at the brake decides whether holes line up, flanges meet, and assemblies bolt together the first time. A part can be cut perfectly and still fail at assembly if the bends are off by half a degree. That is why MJM treats forming as a precision discipline in its own right, not an afterthought to cutting.
MJM Manufacturing runs an all-Amada forming department: six Amada RG 80 CNC press brakes (80-ton), two Amada EG 4010 servo-electric machines for the tightest-tolerance work, and a 240-ton Amada HRB 2204 with a 14-foot bed for long parts and heavy-gauge material. Three Knuth plate rollers in 3-, 4- and 7-foot widths add cylindrical and curved forming to the department.
Every job is programmed offline with 3D bend simulation before the first part is ever bent — setups are faster, first articles come out right, and production runs stay repeatable. Common Amada tooling across the entire line means any job can move to any machine without re-engineering, so scheduling stays flexible and lead times stay short. We have been forming sheet metal in South Florida since 1979, and forming runs in-line with laser cutting, punching, welding, hardware insertion and finishing — one building, one purchase order, one point of accountability.

The Process
How We Form a Part
Flat pattern & bend deductions: Before anything is bent, we develop an accurate flat pattern using real bend deductions for the exact tooling and material — so the finished dimensions match your drawing, not a generic approximation.
Offline programming & 3D simulation: The bend sequence is programmed and simulated in 3D away from the machine. Collisions, tool interference and unreachable bends show up on screen, so the first physical part is right instead of a test piece.
Tooling selection: We choose punch and die combinations for your material, thickness and radius — and because our tooling is common across the Amada line, the job can run on whichever machine fits the schedule.
First-article verification: The first formed part is checked against your print before the run continues, with angles and critical dimensions confirmed on our CMM and optical inspection equipment.
Production & in-line handoff: Once the setup is proven, the run is formed to the same standard start to finish, then moves straight into welding, hardware insertion or finishing — no freight, no waiting on an outside vendor’s queue.

Rolled & curved shapes: Cylinders, sleeves and curved panels rolled on Knuth plate rollers up to 7 feet wide.
Panels, covers & skins: Formed returns, hemmed edges, offsets and stiffening ribs on cosmetic and functional panels that have to look right and stay flat.
Materials
Materials We Form
Different metals behave very differently at the brake — grain direction, springback and minimum radius all change with the alloy and temper. We form the full range of production sheet and plate, and account for each material’s behavior in the flat pattern and tooling.
Aluminum (5052, 6061, 3003), cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel, stainless steel (304, 316, 316L), galvanized and galvannealed steel, copper, brass, beryllium copper and titanium — from thin decorative gauge up to heavy plate on the 240-ton brake. When a material choice or radius will fight the forming process, our design-for-manufacturability review flags it before production, so you avoid cracked bends and costly revisions.
