Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness can you laser cut?

Mild and hot rolled steel to 1 inch. Stainless steel and aluminum to 0.625 inch. Copper and brass to 0.375 inch. We also cut titanium, galvanized, galvanneal and beryllium copper. All five of our Amada lasers run 5 ft x 10 ft beds, so a full sheet goes on the table without splitting the nest.

What file formats do you need to quote a laser cut part?

DXF, DWG, STEP or a PDF drawing. A flat DXF quotes fastest. If the part gets formed, send the 3D model and we develop the flat pattern in house so the bend deductions match our tooling instead of someone else’s assumptions.

What tolerance do you hold on laser cut parts?

Plus or minus 0.005 inch on cut features. Once the part is formed, add plus or minus 0.010 inch on flange dimensions and plus or minus 0.5 degree on bend angle. If your print needs tighter than that on a specific feature, call it out and we will tell you before you order whether we can hold it.

Can you laser cut copper and brass?

Yes, to 0.375 inch. Fiber lasers put out a 1 micron wavelength that couples into reflective metals, which is where older CO2 machines fail or damage themselves. Four of our five lasers are fiber, so copper, brass and beryllium copper are routine work here rather than a special request.

Should my parts be cut with nitrogen or oxygen?

Nitrogen gives an oxide-free edge that takes powder coat or paint with no secondary cleaning, which is what you want on anything cosmetic or anything getting welded. Oxygen cuts thick carbon steel faster and cheaper but leaves an oxide layer you have to remove before finishing. We generate our own nitrogen on site at 99.9999 percent purity, so choosing nitrogen does not mean waiting on a gas delivery.

How fast can you turn around laser cut parts?

Quotes go out in 24 to 48 hours. We offer expedited laser cutting for parts you need immediately, and because cutting, forming, hardware and welding are all under one roof in Miami Gardens, a rush job never sits waiting on an outside shop to get to it.

Is there a minimum order for laser cutting?

No. We cut one piece and we cut thousands. Per-piece cost drops as quantity goes up because setup and programming get spread across more parts, but there is no quantity floor to place an order.
