Titanium Laser Cutting Services

MJM Manufacturing, Inc. provides precision titanium laser cutting services from its 44,000 sq ft facility in Miami, Florida. Titanium is one of the most challenging metals to cut — requiring high laser power, precise parameter control, and inert gas assist to prevent oxidation and maintain edge quality. MJM’s five Amada fiber laser systems are configured for titanium cutting across Grade 2 (commercially pure), Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), and other aerospace and medical titanium alloys. With AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR registration, and DFARS compliance — plus full material traceability — MJM supports titanium programs for aerospace, defense, and medical device customers nationwide. Quotes in 24–48 hours. Email sales@mjmmfg.com or call (305) 620-2020.

Titanium Laser Cutting Capabilities

Argon/N2
Assist Gas

Inert Gas Assist — Prevents Titanium Oxidation

Titanium reacts aggressively with oxygen at cutting temperatures — producing brittle, discolored oxide layers that compromise edge quality and downstream welding or bonding operations. MJM uses argon or nitrogen assist gas when cutting titanium to shield the cut zone from atmospheric oxygen, producing clean, silver edges with minimal heat-affected zone. Critical for aerospace structural and medical implant-grade titanium.

Full
Traceability

Full Material Traceability & Certifications

Aerospace and defense titanium programs require documented material traceability from mill cert to finished part. MJM’s AS9100 quality system maintains full traceability on all titanium stock — heat number, mill certifications, material test reports, and dimensional records — available upon request for every titanium program.

DFARS
Compliant

DFARS Compliant — Domestic Titanium Sourcing

Titanium is a DFARS specialty metal — defense programs require it to be melted or produced in the United States. MJM sources domestically produced titanium in compliance with DFARS 252.225-7014, supporting prime contractor DFARS compliance requirements on DoD programs involving titanium components.

Tolerance

Tight Tolerances — ±0.001″ Typical on Titanium

MJM’s Amada fiber laser systems maintain ±0.001″ tolerances on titanium — essential for aerospace structural components, medical device parts, and precision defense assemblies. First article inspection with dimensional reports available under MJM’s AS9100 quality system.

Section 02

Titanium Grades We Laser Cut

Grade 2
Commercially Pure Titanium
The most widely used commercially pure titanium grade. Excellent corrosion resistance, good formability, and weldability. Used in chemical processing, marine, medical, and architectural applications where corrosion resistance is prioritized over strength.
Grade 5
Ti-6Al-4V — Aerospace Standard
The most widely used titanium alloy in aerospace and defense. Highest strength-to-weight ratio of any titanium grade. Used in aircraft structures, engine components, missile bodies, and medical implants. DFARS specialty metal — domestic sourcing required for defense programs.
Grade 9
Ti-3Al-2.5V — Tubing Grade
Higher strength than commercially pure grades with better formability than Grade 5. Used in aerospace hydraulic tubing, bicycle frames, and medical applications requiring a balance of strength, formability, and corrosion resistance.

Titanium Laser Cutting — FAQ

Who does titanium laser cutting in Florida?

MJM Manufacturing, Inc. is one of Florida’s only AS9100 certified, ITAR registered titanium laser cutting shops. Located in Miami at 5205 NW 161 Street, MJM cuts Grade 2, Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), and other titanium alloys with full material traceability. Call (305) 620-2020 or email sales@mjmmfg.com.

Why is titanium difficult to laser cut?

Titanium reacts strongly with oxygen at high temperatures — producing titanium oxide that creates brittle, discolored edges and compromises downstream welding and bonding. It also has low thermal conductivity, causing heat to build up at the cut zone. MJM controls these challenges with argon or nitrogen assist gas, optimized laser parameters, and experienced operators trained specifically on titanium.

Is Ti-6Al-4V a DFARS specialty metal?

Yes. Titanium alloys including Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) are DFARS specialty metals — defense programs require them to be melted or produced domestically in the United States. MJM sources domestically produced titanium and maintains DFARS compliance documentation for defense prime contractor supply chain requirements.

Can MJM weld titanium after laser cutting?

Yes. MJM’s certified welding department and 9 IPG fiber laser welders support titanium welding under AWS D17.1 aerospace welding standards. Titanium welding requires inert gas shielding (argon) to prevent oxidation — MJM has the equipment and qualified procedures to weld titanium for aerospace and defense programs.
