Beryllium Copper Laser Cutting Services

MJM Manufacturing, Inc. provides precision beryllium copper laser cutting services from its 44,000 sq ft facility in Miami, Florida. Beryllium copper — including C17200, C17510, and C17000 — is one of the most demanding materials to cut, requiring controlled handling protocols due to its beryllium content. MJM’s AS9100 certified, ITAR registered facility and experienced team are equipped to handle beryllium copper with the proper safety controls, precision equipment, and quality documentation required for aerospace, defense, electronics, semiconductor, and high-performance connector applications. Quotes returned in 24–48 hours. Email sales@mjmmfg.com or call (305) 620-2020.

Important — Beryllium Copper Handling Notice

Beryllium copper in solid or sheet form is safe to handle. However, cutting, grinding, sanding, or machining beryllium copper generates beryllium-containing dust and fumes that are a serious respiratory hazard. MJM Manufacturing follows OSHA beryllium standards and proper engineering controls — including ventilation, containment, and PPE protocols — for all beryllium copper fabrication. All beryllium copper work is performed by trained personnel under controlled conditions.

Why Beryllium Copper & Why MJM

Unique
Properties

Why Engineers Specify Beryllium Copper

Beryllium copper offers a unique combination of properties found in no other copper alloy — the highest strength of any copper alloy, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, non-magnetic and non-sparking characteristics, and exceptional fatigue resistance. These properties make it the material of choice for aerospace connectors, defense electronics, precision springs, contacts, switches, and high-performance semiconductor components where both conductivity and strength are required.

Controlled
Handling

OSHA-Compliant Beryllium Handling Protocols

Most fabrication shops won’t touch beryllium copper because of the handling requirements. MJM has the protocols, training, PPE, and controlled environment to work with beryllium copper safely and in compliance with OSHA’s beryllium exposure standard (29 CFR 1910.1024). This makes MJM one of the few shops in Florida equipped to laser cut beryllium copper for demanding programs.

Fiber Laser
Advantage

Fiber Laser Is Ideal for Beryllium Copper

Like standard copper, beryllium copper is highly reflective — making it difficult for CO2 laser systems. MJM’s Amada fiber laser fleet cuts beryllium copper cleanly and precisely, handling the material’s reflectivity without back-reflection risk. Nitrogen assist gas is used to produce clean, oxide-free edges critical for electrical contact and connector applications.

AS9100
ITAR · Certified

AS9100 & ITAR Certified for Defense & Aerospace BeCu Programs

Beryllium copper is widely used in defense and aerospace electronics — programs that require ITAR registration and AS9100 quality documentation. MJM is both — making MJM one of the only Florida fabricators qualified to cut beryllium copper for controlled defense and aerospace programs with full material traceability and first article inspection capability.

Section 02

Beryllium Copper Alloys We Cut

C17200
Alloy 25 — High Strength
The most widely used beryllium copper alloy. Highest strength after age hardening — up to 200 ksi. Used in aerospace connectors, defense springs, electronic contacts, switches, and precision instruments requiring maximum strength with good conductivity.
C17510
High Conductivity Grade
Lower beryllium content with higher electrical and thermal conductivity than C17200. Used in resistance welding components, spot welding electrodes, electrical contacts, and applications where conductivity is prioritized alongside good strength.
C17000
Alloy 165 — Balanced Grade
Intermediate beryllium content providing a balance between the high strength of C17200 and the high conductivity of C17510. Used in bearings, bushings, non-sparking tools, and specialty electronic components.

Section 03

Beryllium Copper Laser Cutting — FAQ

Who does beryllium copper laser cutting in Florida?

MJM Manufacturing, Inc. is one of the few Florida fabricators equipped to laser cut beryllium copper with proper OSHA-compliant handling protocols. Located in Miami at 5205 NW 161 Street, MJM is AS9100 certified and ITAR registered — fully qualified for aerospace and defense beryllium copper programs. Call (305) 620-2020 or email sales@mjmmfg.com.

Is beryllium copper dangerous to cut?

Beryllium copper in solid sheet form is safe to handle. The hazard arises during cutting, grinding, or machining — which generates beryllium-containing particles that are a serious respiratory hazard if inhaled. MJM follows OSHA’s beryllium exposure standard (29 CFR 1910.1024) with proper engineering controls, ventilation, PPE, and trained personnel. This is why most shops won’t cut it — and why MJM is the right partner for beryllium copper programs.

What beryllium copper alloys does MJM cut?

MJM cuts C17200 (Alloy 25 — high strength), C17510 (high conductivity), and C17000 (Alloy 165 — balanced grade). If you have a specific alloy or temper requirement, contact sales@mjmmfg.com with your specification for capability confirmation.

Can MJM cut beryllium copper for ITAR-controlled defense programs?

Yes. MJM is ITAR registered with the U.S. State Department, AS9100 certified, and DFARS compliant — fully qualified to process beryllium copper for defense and aerospace programs requiring controlled handling of technical data and defense articles. CAGE Code 0YLX1. Verify at SAM.gov.

What tolerances does MJM hold on beryllium copper laser cutting?

MJM’s Amada fiber laser systems hold ±0.001″ tolerances on beryllium copper — the precision required for aerospace connectors, precision contacts, and semiconductor components. First article inspection reports available upon request under MJM’s AS9100 quality system.
