Project Overview

The Challenge

A U.S.-based robotics manufacturer developing autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for warehouse and logistics applications needed a precision sheet metal fabrication partner capable of supporting both early-stage prototyping and rapid scale to production. Their enclosures required tight dimensional tolerances to ensure proper fit with internal electronics, motors, and sensor arrays — with no room for rework in the field.

The customer had experienced inconsistent quality from a previous supplier and needed a single-source manufacturer who could manage fabrication, hardware insertion, and powder coat finishing without the customer having to coordinate multiple vendors.

The MJM Solution

MJM Manufacturing reviewed the customer’s CAD drawings and provided design for manufacturability (DFM) feedback before the first prototype was cut — identifying two bend radius issues that would have caused cracking in production. This saved the customer an estimated four weeks of rework time before production ever began.

Using our CNC fiber laser cutter and press brake forming equipment, MJM produced the first prototype enclosure set in under two weeks. After customer approval, we transitioned to production runs of 100 units per month, scaling to 200 units per month within three months as the customer’s order volume grew.

As a turn-key manufacturer, MJM coordinated powder coat finishing and hardware insertion in-house, delivering fully complete assemblies ready for the customer’s final electronics integration — eliminating two separate vendor relationships the customer had previously managed.
