A chassis is the backbone of an electronic system — it holds the boards, the power supply, the connectors, and the thermal management, and it has to do it with the precision that lets everything else fit and function. At MJM Manufacturing, chassis and power supply fabrication is some of our favorite and most refined work: tight-tolerance sheet metal that becomes the structural heart of a finished product.

What We Build

Electronic Equipment Chassis

Structural sheet metal chassis that house circuit boards, connectors, and internal components. We hold the tolerances that matter for board mounting, connector cutouts, and panel alignment — with PEM hardware, standoffs, and cage nuts installed and ready for assembly. Whether it’s a standalone instrument chassis or a subassembly inside a larger system, we build it to spec.

Power Supply Enclosures & Chassis

Power supply chassis carry their own demands — ventilation and thermal management, clean grounding paths, connector and cable access, and durable finishes that hold up in service. We fabricate power supply enclosures with the cutouts, louvers, mounting features, and hardware they need, and we can advise on finish and masking so grounding and contact areas stay conductive where required.

Brackets, Panels & Precision Components

Chassis rarely travel alone. We also fabricate the brackets, mounting plates, front and rear panels, gussets, and small precision components that go with them — the parts that hold boards, mount power supplies, secure connectors, and tie an assembly together. These are exactly the kind of tight-tolerance, repeatable pieces our equipment and process are built for, whether you need a handful of prototypes or a low-volume production run alongside your chassis.

Because we run five Amada laser systems, nine forming machines, and full welding and finishing in-house, we can move quickly on low-quantity jobs and scale the same design into higher volumes when your product takes off. Our design-for-manufacturability review catches cost and fit issues early — which matters most on prototypes, where getting it right the first time saves real time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tolerances can you hold on a chassis?

Plus or minus 0.005 inch on laser cut features, plus or minus 0.010 inch on formed flange dimensions, plus or minus 0.5 degree on bend angle. On a chassis those formed tolerances are usually what matters, because they decide whether a board, a fan tray or a power supply drops into place. Tell us which dimensions are critical and we will inspect to them specifically rather than to the general note.

Do you install hardware like PEM standoffs and studs?

Yes. Hardware insertion runs on Haeger equipment here, which means self-clinching standoffs, nuts, studs and spacers get set to the correct force rather than hammered in. Insertion happens before finishing so the hardware is not fighting a coated hole.

How do you handle grounding and EMI on a painted chassis?

Powder coat is an insulator, so any surface that carries a ground has to be masked. Call out the ground points, the bonding pads and the gasket contact surfaces on the drawing and we will keep them free of coating. If the design needs a conductive finish on aluminum instead of paint, we will route it through our finishing partners for chem film.

Can you do perforation, louvers and fan cutouts?

Yes. Vent patterns, louvers, fan and filter cutouts, and card guide slots are cut on the laser or punched on the Amada turret, so hole position stays tied to the same datum as the mounting features. Open area, hole size and pattern are your call, though we will flag a pattern that will leave the panel too weak to stay flat.

Do you mark and silkscreen chassis panels?

Laser part marking is in house, so serial numbers, part numbers, logos and rev levels get marked permanently. Silkscreen and pad printing for legends and control panel graphics go through our finishing partners. Send the artwork with the drawing and we will quote the whole thing as one part.

Should we prototype a chassis before production?

Almost always. A chassis has more fit-dependent features than any other kind of sheet metal part, and a single prototype catches interference, hardware clearance and cable routing problems that a model does not. There is no minimum quantity, no tooling required, and the prototype runs on the same machines production will, so what fits on the prototype fits in production.

Can you build a complete unit, not just the metal?

Yes. Fabrication, welding, hardware, finishing, marking and mechanical assembly all happen through this facility, and we will install customer-supplied components as part of the build. Most chassis customers take a finished, inspected assembly off our dock in Miami Gardens rather than managing four vendors themselves.
