Carbon Steel Laser Cutting
Precision carbon steel laser cutting — cold rolled, hot rolled, all gauges and thicknesses. Prototype to high-volume production. Fast turnaround. Miami, Florida.
MJM Manufacturing, Inc. provides precision carbon steel laser cutting services from its 44,000 sq ft facility in Miami, Florida. Carbon steel — including cold rolled steel (CRS) and hot rolled steel (HRS) — is MJM’s highest volume laser cutting material, processed daily across all gauges from light sheet through structural plate. MJM’s five Amada fiber laser systems cut carbon steel with oxygen assist for maximum speed and with nitrogen assist for cleaner, weld-ready edges depending on application requirements. Serving OEM, industrial, architectural, defense, robotics, and manufacturing customers across Florida and the United States. Quotes in 24–48 hours. Email sales@mjmmfg.com or call (305) 620-2020.
Section 01
Cold Rolled vs Hot Rolled Steel Laser Cutting
Cold Rolled Steel (CRS) — Precision Enclosures & Sheet Metal
Cold rolled steel is produced at room temperature, resulting in tighter dimensional tolerances, smoother surface finish, and better formability than hot rolled steel. CRS is MJM’s primary material for precision enclosures, panels, brackets, rack units, and OEM sheet metal components. Available in gauges from 26 gauge through 3/16″ and heavier. Ideal for parts that will be powder coated, painted, or plated after fabrication.
Hot Rolled Steel (HRS) — Structural & Heavy Plate
Hot rolled steel is produced at high temperature, making it easier to form and shape at the mill. Available in heavier gauges and plate thicknesses than CRS — used for structural components, frames, bases, brackets, and industrial applications where surface finish is less critical than strength and weldability. MJM cuts HRS from light gauge through heavy structural plate.

Carbon Steel Laser Cutting — FAQ
Who does carbon steel laser cutting in Miami?
MJM Manufacturing, Inc. is Miami’s most established carbon steel laser cutting company, processing cold rolled and hot rolled steel daily across all gauges from its 44,000 sq ft facility at 5205 NW 161 Street. MJM operates 5 Amada fiber lasers and has been cutting carbon steel since 1979. Call (305) 620-2020 or email sales@mjmmfg.com.
What is the difference between oxygen and nitrogen assist for carbon steel?
Oxygen assist on carbon steel produces faster cut speeds by using the combustion reaction between the laser-heated steel and oxygen gas. This leaves a thin oxide layer on the cut edge — acceptable for most structural and painted applications. Nitrogen assist on carbon steel produces a cleaner, oxide-free edge at slower speeds — preferred for parts that will be welded, plated, or require a high-quality edge finish. MJM uses both depending on your application requirements.
Can MJM powder coat carbon steel parts after laser cutting?
Yes. MJM offers complete in-house carbon steel fabrication — laser cutting, forming, welding, deburring, and powder coating all under one roof in Miami. No outsourcing. Single source from flat sheet to finished, powder coated carbon steel assembly.
